Four years ago, The Glamour Boys announced the signing of Khama Billiat, on a free transfer from Mamelodi Sundowns, much was expected from the Zimbabwean international who in his five-year stay had won league titles, domestic cups, and conquered Africa.

Expectations were always going to be sky high for the talented attacker in Naturena more so with the Glamour Boys lacking trophies, he was seen as a savior and by most accounts the best player in the league.

And now four years later when Kaizer Chiefs are in a midst of a squad overhaul; Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Ntiya-Ntiya being the latest players to be released; it was slightly surprising to see Chiefs fans asking for Billiat’s head next.
Last season Khama Billiat despite another trophy-less season finished the season with eight goals and eight assists in twenty-nine appearances, and sixteen goal contributions.

Now, this is a far cry from his best season which yielded fifteen goals and seventeen assists but it is a sure improvement from previous seasons and showing clear improvement with Keagan Dolly unburdening him from being the only primary playmaker.

Last season saw the return of Keagan Dolly, which brought back the CBD trio that terrorized the league in Sundown’s colors.
Unfortunately, this didn’t ignite Castro but it did light a fire with Billiat who played with much-needed freedom and even though the combination of the two was brief it offered a glimpse of what to expect especially if Dolly can stay fit and healthy and with Coach Arthur Zwane hoping to bring back the values that saw Chiefs earn the moniker of the Glamour Boys, the glory days look set to be back with Khama Billiat at the forefront.
